“Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home. After telling everyone good-bye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray.
Mark 6:45-51
Late that night, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land. He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost. They were all terrified when they saw him.
But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!” Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed,”
When we obey God, we assume that everything will turn out great! But that is not always the case. Sometimes, obeying God takes us to a messy place where we are faced with a choice. The choice to trust God or doubt God. The question becomes, is God big enough to rescue me from this storm? Where is He when I need Him the most? The answer is, He is with you in the calm waters. He is with you when the waves pick up. He is with you when the boat starts to flood with water, and it’s looking like there is no way out. He is with you through it all. We can rest in the peace that is given to us through Jesus even while we are head-on with the storm.
The disciples obeyed Jesus when He told them to go out on the boat. They had no idea that they were going to face a storm that night… A storm that didn’t just last a few minutes, but a couple of hours.
Jesus saw them. He came to their rescue. He ceased the storm.
Why would Jesus allow this storm? Why does He allow the storms in our lives? So we can see His glory. Jesus could have prayed against the storm from land, but instead, He walked on water and put Himself in the middle of the storm. Jesus is showing the disciples who He really is. That the son of God is with them.
In any storm you face today, you can trust that Jesus is with you. He is in the middle of the storm, working all things together for your good and His glory. He is allowing the storm to happen to show you His glory. He is with you in the storm.

Love this! God is always by our side through the storm- He is near to the broken hearted and rescues us from our troubles. God Bless.
This is one of my favorite passages and always a truth I needed to be reminded of. Thank you for sharing!
No matter how many times I hear this, it’s always a good reminder. God never leaves our side, not even in the storms.
Remembering all of the times Jesus has been with me through life’s storms gives me courage to trust Him in the storms ahead. I’m not a fan of rough water but that’s where I’ve learned to trust Jesus and for that I’m so very thankful! Thanks for this great reminder!
