What Does it Mean to Be a Child of God?

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”

Ephesians 1:5 NLT

I’m not sure what your family dynamic looks like. If you were adopted, an orphan, grew up in the foster care system, had both parents in the home, had a single parent, lived with a relative, etc. All I know is that when we give our lives to Jesus, then we belong to a greater family than the one we grew up with here on earth.

So what does it mean to be a child of God?

We belong to God’s family.

He has chosen us to be beloved sons and daughters of the king of kings. He has adopted us as His own, and did so not grudgingly but with great pleasure!

What a unique and beautiful thing it is to be apart of God’s family. A perfect family where nothing lacks. A family full of abundance in grace, mercy, wisdom, knowledge, unconditional love, acceptance, security, provision, and protection. Which also includes a loving discipline and correction for our own safety and growth.

What a beautiful picture of a family full of unity, working together to build up the kingdom of God and invite more people into His incredible forever family. There’s nothing quite like it. That’s what it means to be a child of God!

If you’ve surrendered your life to Jesus, my question for you is, who are you going to invite into the kingdom of God today? Who can you be a witness to? Who can you be a light to and show God’s endless love, mercy, and compassion?

If you haven’t surrendered your life to Jesus, and you’re ready to, there is no better time than now. If that’s you, please shoot me an email shara@sweetsurrenderedsoul.com so I can say congrats and help you along this journey of living life apart of God’s family!

Prayer:

Thank you, Lord, for inviting me into your family. Thank you for all the blessings that come with that. Continue to renew my mind and change my heart in a way that honors you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
