Find Joy in the Journey

Find Joy in the Journey - Sweet Surrendered Soul

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT

There’s a saying out there that goes a little something like this: “But what does it look like to actually like who you are when you’re not who you think you’re supposed to be yet?”

This quote hits home hard as of lately. Knowing you’re not who you want to be yet and trying to find joy in the journey to that can be exhausting. And sometimes, nearly impossible. When I’m not who I feel I’m supposed to be or where I should be yet, negative thoughts flood my brain. “Why can’t I get my crap together yet? Why did I sleep in again? Why am I not reading daily? Why do I do the things I don’t want to do??” When I know where I want to be and who I want to be! That’s when anger and disappointment sweep in.

But I’m learning to find peace in the in-between. And yes. Dare I even say it… joy.

To become who we want to be, we need growth & with growth comes its seasons. Though they may seem painful and exhausting, they are necessary to become who we want to be in the long run.

That doesn’t mean it will be easy or even fun. But we have the control to change our outlook on life and ourselves.

Instead of looking at ourselves and seeing someone who isn’t nearly close to where they want to be, let’s change our perspective and see who we are becoming in the here and now. Let’s view ourselves with understanding, knowing that we have to be in the here and now to get where we want to be in the future.

Let’s find joy in the journey.

Father God, thank you that you have a season for everything. Please help me to see what I can learn right here right now. Please give me the guidance and wisdom I need to do what you’ve called me to do. Thank you for the grace I need to keep persevering. Help change my perspective on life and myself. Thank you, Lord, for a joy that comes from you and not what I am facing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

This really resonated with me today. Discouragement creeps into my thought life many times, but we know with God all things are possible. His will in my life will be done in His own time. Truly surrendering my life to Him means growing into who He wants me to be.
