“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
Hebrews 4:16 NLT
Have you ever felt like you can’t come to God? That you’ve messed up too many times and are afraid to run to Him? Or that He’s mad at you for not making the right choices?
Back when I first gave my life to the Lord, I remember so clearly how I felt after I had fallen into sin one night. I beat myself up, thinking that God was mad at me, and there was no way He could forgive me. I tweeted something along those lines, and God’s grace showed up where I thought I’d never find it.
One of my good friends tweeted back at me, reminding me of the Gospel and that Jesus loves me and forgives me.
And that friend was Garrett, who is now my husband. That tweet of his encouragement was the beginning of our friendship turning into something more.
That night I messed up, fell into temptation, and sinned against God. While I did have to deal with the consequences of my sin, God didn’t leave me to figure it out on my own. He wasn’t mad at me. He looked at me with compassion, and He forgave me. He showed me grace in more than one way that night. First, with forgiving me for sinning against Him and second, blessing me with a partner to walk this Christian life within friendship, a dating relationship, and in marriage.
So let me be the first to tell you that you don’t have to run away from God. You can bring your mess to Him. You can lay all you’ve done at His feet. He will not abandon you. He will not leave you. He will not mock you. He will shower grace and mercy upon you. He will rinse you in His love and freedom. He will make you new. He will forgive you and help you. That’s the kind of father we have.
Trust me when I say, there is power in forgiveness.
Prayer:
God, thank you so much for your endless mercy and grace. Thank you that there is nothing that I can do that will ever separate me from your love. I pray that you would forgive me and help me to live a life that honors you. Holy Spirit, guide my hands, feet, thoughts, words, and actions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
